“Deep Roots : Culture and Attachment” with EFT Trainer Paul Guillory, author of Emotionally Focused Therapy with African Americans: Love Heals
S1E3: Over the past year we have witnessed both the racial inequity in health care that was exposed by COVID-19, and the re-emergence of the racial injustice protest movement. These events have alerted BIPOC therapists and their allies to the increased distress experienced by people of color. These inequities have also exposed a critical need to promote effect ways to integrate cultural factors into psychotherapy.
This training will demonstrate how to effectively integrate cultural factors and Emotion Focused Therapies. This integrative model moves well beyond merely seeing culture or race as color-blind/neutral and shows, with multiple clinical video tapes and examples, how therapists can use the power of deep roots; culture and attachment, to understand and work with the unique emotional distress and cultural strength of Black communities and communities of color.

Welcome to “Leaning into EFT” where participants will get a front row seat observing live therapy sessions unfold with couples, individuals and families. Each episode will feature the work of a different supervisor or trainer, where the therapist will walk us through their session and note key choice points, interventions and share their process and reflections of the session.
